I have taken maintainership of this package, and updated it in a number of ways. First, I changed to the maintained fork on github. I have added dependencies on sdl2_mixer and soundfont-fluid.
Timidity is no longer required, as sdl2_mixer has a version of timidty build into it, I believe. At least, it works for me without timidity or fluidsynth.
Let me know if you have any issues!

TL;DR You at least have to install "fluidsynth" to get music working, maybe.
Hey, gang. I wanted to share what I had to do to get the in-game music working with 1oom.
Tell them music didn’t work at first. I went to the Timidity ArchWiki page and got timidity running as a systemd user service. I installed soundfont-fluid. Then I got the vkeybd working. Then I did (cd /etc; ln -s timidity timidity++) because 1oom seemd to be looking for it. That might not matter, though, because only after I installed fluidsynth (and ran 1oom_classic_sdl2 with -sdlmixersf /usr/share/soundfonts/FluidR3_GM.sf2 ). Now music works great.
Although sound did work properly out of the box, music did not. I first went to the Timidity page on ArchWiki and followed the instructions to get timidity working. I installed "soundfont-fluid" to get a /usr/share/soundfonts/FluidR3_GM.sf2 . I got vkeybd (a pure-software MIDI keyboard) playing music, per the wiki page.
1oom_classic_sdl2 output said something about not being able to find /etc/timidity++ . Arch installs the timidity config files under /etc/timidity. I couldn't easily find where to update the path in the 1oom source, so I did "cd /etc; sudo ln -s timidity timidity++".
Those steps above (other than installing the "soundfont-fluid" package) may not matter, though. Music still did not work. I then installed the "fluidsynth" package. Then, I ran "1oom_classic_sdl2 -sdlmixersf /usr/share/soundfonts/FluidR3_GM.sf2". THEN, and from that point forward, the in-game music works perfectly. (Actually, the music seems to be behind a slight delay of maybe half a second. Close enough, though. I'm happy to be playing MOO on Linux without the use of an emultor or VM.)

The original author no longer updates this repository. However, development seems to continue at https://gitlab.com/Tapani_/1oom
