Hello this is the person who forked and attempted to fix some of the bugs.
Addressing a few of the problems I am new to this and made the naive mistake of changing the location where the settings are saved resetting them to their defaults for anyone that installs the package. Sorry for any confusion that this causes but everything should work as before if you reconfigure your settings.
Again I am sorry about this. I did not realize the consequences or confusion this would cause.
Please open any issues you have with the software on the upstream git repo and I will do my best to resolve them.

The newest 4.0.0 version fixed the error I was getting.

@pixel1138 - I got the same thing initially. It seems like a bug, but it did go away when I retried.

I receive the following error on the new fork: Error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '/home/chris/Downloads/android-messages-desktop/src/.electron-gyp/.yarnrc' And that file is most certainly missing

@rodneyck: I updated the package to this commit, maybe that will help.

@yochananmarqos: So I am using the new fork and no more javascript errors, but unfortunately the "fix" in this fork took away the ability of the app appearing in KDE's system tray, thus allowing for pop-up notifications. You can run it minimized, but no pop-up notifications.
I guess it is the choice between to evils, constant javascript errors, or no system tray function. Hopefully the original creator will respond one day and fix it.

@rodneyck: I switched to OrangeDrangon's fork for now.

Android-messages-desktop is kind of broken now. It is throwing up javascript error with every notification, across all platforms. The issue has been identified here; https://github.com/chrisknepper/android-messages-desktop/issues/243
Unfortunately, it seems Chris Knepper may have abandoned this project. There is now a new fork with a fix for the issue here, by OrangeDragon; https://github.com/OrangeDrangon/android-messages-desktop
Is there anyway to either incorporate OrangeDragon's fix, or switch to use his fork?
