I don't use this package, but as I was trying to test the long-abandoned dependent multitask-network-cascades-dr-git, I've run into caffe's failure to build from source. Not sure if there is any real demand on the functionality of this package (popularity: 0.000000).

But @dbermond, I'd just like to share this info with you about the C++ FTBFS in clean chroot, so that you can take a decision on the viability of this package. (There are other provider packages of caffe on AUR, I might check on them later. I know that most of their upstream is abandoned for many years at this point, and it's not easy to keep them alive.)

Full build output uploaded here.

Random, short excerpt:

    src/caffe/blob.cpp:163:3: error: ‘Check_EQImpl’ is not a member of ‘google::logging::internal’; did you mean ‘google::logging::Check_EQImpl’?
      163 |   CHECK_EQ(count_, other.count());
          |   ^~~~~~~~
    /usr/include/glog/logging.h:737:1: note: ‘google::logging::Check_EQImpl’ declared here
      737 | DEFINE_CHECK_OP_IMPL(Check_EQ, ==)
          | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    src/caffe/blob.cpp:163:3: error: ‘LogMessageFatal’ is not a member of ‘google’; did you mean ‘LogMessageTime’?
      163 |   CHECK_EQ(count_, other.count());
          |   ^~~~~~~~

@henkm Fixed.

Trying to build in a clean chroot but running into this error:

The exact same error occurs in caffe-git.

@dbermond thanks, it is indeed working again after rebuilding the package.

I used the caffe-git package for this job.

ptrstn libprotobuf.so.22 is no longer on the repositories. You need to rebuild the package against the current protobuf package for linking to the current profobuf library sover.

I'm getting the following error message when importing caffe

>>> import caffe

  File "/usr/lib/python3.8/site-packages/caffe/__init__.py", line 1, in <module>
    from .pycaffe import Net, SGDSolver, NesterovSolver, AdaGradSolver, RMSPropSolver, AdaDeltaSolver, AdamSolver, NCCL, Timer
  File "/usr/lib/python3.8/site-packages/caffe/pycaffe.py", line 13, in <module>
    from ._caffe import Net, SGDSolver, NesterovSolver, AdaGradSolver, \
ImportError: libprotobuf.so.22: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have no idea what happened. It worked a few months ago.

@jpeter Package is building fine, and also caffe-git. The search path for 'pyconfig.h' header is specified in Makefile.config by the PYTHON_INCLUDE variable.

caffe, caffe-git don't compile:

@petronny Package updated for python 3.8.

I get trouble when building against python 3.8.
