Note: As reported by The Verge and elsewhere, Twitter recently changed the Developer Agreement to effectively ban third-party clients such as Cawbird. (As I recall, they used to have similar rules a bit over a year ago, but then removed them with no announcement that I could find at the time.) Cawbird’s main API keys have already been revoked (source); the custom “Cawbird for Arch Linux” client keys used in this package have apparently escaped Twitter’s notice so far, but it’s probably only a matter of time for Twitter to spot them and shut down this app as well. I have no intention to do anything about this when it happens, but if anyone else wants to try their hand and tilt at windmills, I can orphan this package to make it available for a takeover.

The package name stays the same, but the version is automatically updated by makepkg to reflect the actual Git version being installed – see the Arch Wiki.

Hi, why the name of package change, from actual version to cawbird-git-1.5.flatpak.r32.g39271259-1 at moment to compile, is like the complete PKGBUILD is replace for the older

The Twitter credentials issue seems to be resolved for the time being.

lucaswerkmeister commented on 2021-11-13 12:08 (UTC)

Twitter has limited the app (credentials) used by this package (as well as the main Cawbird one: https://twitter.com/CawbirdClient/status/1458871549130420227), so unfortunately it is currently not possible to send tweets, like tweets, or perform other “write” actions using this package (unless you configure your own keys in the PKGBUILD).

I took over the package – I’d already created a Twitter application a few years ago, “Nextbird”, so I had an easier time creating a “Cawbird for Arch Linux” now. Please let me know if there are any issues with the new application/consumer.

Giving up this package. This step https://github.com/IBBoard/cawbird#preparation is hard to reproduce. I spent nearly 30 minutes to get it working, without any luck.
