Alternatively, you may set the environment variables CINNAMON_SCREENSAVER_CFLAGS and CINNAMON_SCREENSAVER_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details.

BTW, once the screensaver activates, I am getting a segmentation failure and this error message on the console: (cinnamon-screensaver:2937): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.cinnamon.screensaver' is not installed

@freethinker: automake problem known, needs to be fixed in gnome-common upstream/packaging (see https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/33285)

Automake-1.9 should be a dependency as well. Meanwhile it can be installed from AUR - yaourt --noconfirm -S automake-1.9

Thanks, it installed now. I had to manually resolve two issues however: 1. The build checks for automake-1.9, 1.10, 1.11 and 1.12. It failed because I had only installed automake-1.13. 2. The package fails to install because it tries to overwrite /etc/xdg/autostart/cinnamon-screensaver.desktop, which is owned by package cinnamon 1.6.7-4.
