The DKMS seems to be broken for me. When installing a new kernel version I always have to reinstall this package to get it working. (There surely is a better way that I don't know of but I thought the idea behind DKMS is to automate the updates of kernel modules) During the kernel update (4.11.7 -> 4.11.9) installation I got this message: :: Starte pre-transaction hooks... (1/1) Remove DKMS modules ==> dkms remove dddvb/0.9.29 -k 4.11.7-1-ARCH rmdir: konnte Verzeichnis 'extramodules' nicht entfernen: Ist kein Verzeichnis [My Translation: Could not remove directory 'extramodules': Is no directory (I think it does not exist, see below)] [...] (1/9) Install DKMS modules ==> dkms install dddvb/0.9.29 -k 4.11.9-1-ARCH Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.11.9-1-ARCH (x86_64) Consult /var/lib/dkms/dddvb/0.9.29/build/make.log for more information. DKMS make.log for dddvb-0.9.29 for kernel 4.11.9-1-ARCH (x86_64) Do 6. Schluss. make: *** [Makefile:7: all] Fehler 2 The "make[1]:" line says that /usr/lib/modules/4.11.7-1-ARCH/build was not found, which is correct: $ ls /usr/lib/modules/ 4.11.9-1-ARCH extramodules-4.11-ARCH So my conclusion is that the DKMS module tries to build in the old version folder, while only the new version exists. Obviously, the new version should be used, as that is the one which will be started after reboot.

@lianse: I could, or you could take over the package as you have clearly more experience with that than I do. I just intended to restore a buildable state.

Can you merge my changes[1], so the dkms package can be build agains an arbitrary kernel version (i.e. kernel update hook triggers dkms install) [1] https://gist.github.com/4s1/99f1d59012661aa9462be33743bc543e

Thanks! I just jused a self-made package with 0.9.23 the last kernel updates, it worked too ... No I could'nt found any advantage in 0.9.26, I think there's only support for new cards/moduls.

schulmar commented on 2016-09-26 11:49 (UTC)

I adopted this package to update the version to 0.9.26. @realmatrix Does this PR offer some advantages compared to the latest release version?

Could somebody build a new package? https://github.com/DigitalDevices/dddvb/pull/4
