Following instructions in post_install(), I manually added the first line as provided but had to change the path of target file in the second one.

(setq load-path (cons "/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/ess" load-path))
    (load "/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/ess/lisp/ess-site")
;   (load "/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/ess/ess-site")

I needed to remove sources before building, therefore a bump.

New git version gives longer version numbers, no need to update.

The texinfo.tex coming with texlive-plainextra is too new to compile this package. See the aforementioned bugreport.

My workaround has been applied upstream. Removed the patch.

Added a workaround to make documentation build with texinfo 5.0.
