While not ideal, one can add the following line to the PKGBUILD in order to be able to successfully build this package:
DLAGENTS=('http::/usr/bin/curl --insecure -L -C - -f -o %o %u')

http://ix.io/2Jce shows the curl error, it do not work with https:// also

the source URL is http:// what causes failing to download it (SSL certificate issue)

Looks like curl doesn't understand the root CA. I am looking into this.
