@greyltc: First of all, calm down and refrain from marking a package out-of-date just because you find one of its dependencies absurd and the maintainer is not immediately responsive to your comments. I generally respond very quickly unless on holidays or traveling abroad with limited access.

Secondly, you are right, there is no reason it should depend on the openmpi version, but this is what I exclusively use and it didn't cross my mind to create a minimalist hdf5-java like you did (bravo for that). So I introduced an unnecessary dependency without thinking it through.

Thirdly, avoid forcing the version of openjdk in your PKGBUILD (=11) unless there is a very specific, compelling reason to do so. Just like I ignored all those people out there who do not necessarily use the openmpi variant of hdf5, you tend to ignore all those who still work with java 8 (LTS until Dec 2020) and are happy with it.

Why should this depend on the openmpi version of hdf5? Please change the dependency to hdf5-java.

Now fixed. I installed java 10 and was able to reproduce your issue. Found two workarounds and picked the less intrusive one (increasing stack limit)

Hm, I'm using java 10. The error occurs when the build script issues chmod on a copy of jre in these lines of build.xml: <chmod perm="ugo+rx"> <fileset dir="${release.dir}/jre" includes="**/**"> </fileset></chmod> Apparently, this tries to issue chomd with too many arguments which, in a shell, could be circumvented by using something like: find . --exec chmod {}.

I have no idea. Are you building with java 7? If yes, do you get the same error when building with java 8?

Build fails for me since the last update: .../hdfview/src/hdfview-3.0/build.xml:838: Execute failed: java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "chmod" (in directory ".../hdfview/src/hdfview-3.0"): error=7, Argument list too long Any ideas what's going wrong?

oops... Indeed, I apologize for that. Did a last minute change and forgot to update the checksum before committing. Will correct it as soon as possible.

The script hdfview-beta.sh can be only executed from whithin the package location. Instead of copying '/opt/HDFView/3.0.0/hdfview.sh' to '/usr/bin/hdfview-beta.sh', the following script will do the job

#! /usr/bin/env bash

/opt/HDFView/3.0.0/hdfview.sh

The HDFview developers have changed the download location and the file name from HDFView-beta-3.0.0 to HDFView-beta-3.0. Therefore, download and changing directory after unpacking fails. Could be also considered as an upstream issue because the use of three blocks (X.Y.Z) for versioning is kind of a standard.
