It's not a dependency of python-build; the build fails here as well, perhaps try to build in a clean chroot to replicate.

Moreover, using transitive dependencies is against the package guidelines, so it should be listed in any case.

carlosal1015: I cannot replicate. You should have python-wheel since it's a dependency of python-build. Can you check that this is the case?
