Edit2: Yesterday's cairo 1.17.4-2 update fixed the issue.

It unfortunately stopped working today. It opens but it doesn't do anything nor can I click anything in the window. It just disappears after a couple of seconds. Here're the last few lines of the console output:

Run OCR at point:125,125No characters identified
java: ../cairo/src/cairo-surface.c:1733: cairo_surface_mark_dirty_rectangle: Assertion `! _cairo_surface_has_snapshots (surface)' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)

Edit: Cairo package update to cairo-1.17.4-1 seems to be the reason. After downgrading to the previous version (cairo-1.17.2+25+gaee96d175-1) Kanjitomo works again.

Yeah, there's a bug in keyboard shortcut code somewhere. I had to comment out these lines inside the config because the key N wasn't working when running Kanjitomo.

#INCREASE_CHARACTER_COLOR_RANGE=VK_PLUS # VK_ADD for numpad +
#DECREASE_CHARACTER_COLOR_RANGE=VK_MINUS # VK_SUBTRACT for numpad -

Too bad the software isn't open source, so we can't check the source code. You might want to contact the author at kanjitomo@gmail.com.

I've noticed that, while kanjitomo is running, my '-' and '=' keys are bound to empty (xev gives FocusIn, FocusOut, and KeymapNotify events). This happens even when the kanjitomo window is not in focus. I'm not certain whether this is a feature, although I have noticed that '-' clears the current kanji.

The md5sum fails to verify. New md5sum seems to be fd6a095552825c5c9c8a4d9a3f2560d2

Thanks for the comment, I added these ideas to the pkgbuild. Hotkeys are damn useful, now that I know about them :)

two minor things:

  • to enable hotkeys one needs to add a config.txt with ENABLE_HOTKEYS=1 (bit silly this isn't default imho but well). I placed it directly into /usr/share/kanjitomo

  • its github site suggests Xmx1200m
