Problems with the PKGBUILD:

It needs to provide and conflict with libspeechd (installing when speech-dispatcher from comunity is installed causes a filesystem conflict error).
It needs to depend on dotconf, not just makedepend. That way makepkg -r works properly.

/usr/bin/spd-conf won't run

The fix is related to the python version.

Install: python2-speechd

vim /usr/bin/spd-conf From: #!/usr/bin/env python3 To: #!/usr/bin/env python2

Updated PKGBUILD to support automatic version number from git and changed dependency from python 2.7 to python 3. There are come commented items in the PKGBUILD that can be used to run speechd as a central service.

I also have had the same error while building. The new sonic support is a must have. Current speech rates are so slow, even at max speed.

any idea how to build this in latest arch? This package complains about python2 not being greater than 3.0, and fails. If I change python=python2 to python=python3, it builds but then can't run spd-conf. Any help? I want to build this for espeak's sonic support.

Added intltool to the makedepends parameter.

Corrected a problem with the 'provides' parameter in the PKGBUILD. This git package, when installed, should appear as having installed speach-dispatcher, itself.

Updated to work with python 2.7.

This git version of speech dispatcher has been configured to run as a system wide service. It uses unix sockets for communication and runs as a separate user, speechd.
