That would be a question for the original maintainer, but I suspect it's a combination of issues like https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6191527.html and https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=833238 , so

  CONFIG_FAT_DEFAULT_IOCHARSET="ascii"
  FAT_DEFAULT_UTF8=y

is simply the most robust combination.

hi jonathon, not an issue but a question : CONFIG_FAT_DEFAULT_IOCHARSET was changed from iso8859-1 to ascii on Feb 14 2021 between these two commits : https://github.com/archlinux/svntogit-packages/blob/eab5c4dff977fec9310f060e562eaa3361aa6ac6/trunk/config#L9597 https://github.com/archlinux/svntogit-packages/blob/283332609549a479357d2d58adf80d12e89e345f/trunk/config#L9208 but I can't find the reason for this change: can you help me or direct me to the answer ? regards, lacsaP.
