!!! IMPORTANT NOTICE !!!

I will be deprecating this package upon the release of Linux 6.14rc1, as the only remaining patch for this series of laptops has been merged into Linux and is slated for release in 6.14rc1!

Thank you all for using this package for the last few months!! ❤️🐧

NPU has now been tested & works! https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/ASUS_Zenbook_UM5606#NPU

@VanKurt you might also need to do install/enable these services: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/ASUS_Zenbook_UM5606#Power_management

P.S. it's normal/expected behavior for linux-firmware-git to include amd-ucode-git :)

A reminder to please take discussions about these patches on other distros to an appropriate channel :)

@VanKurt

TL;DR try this package and the upstream kernel, depending on your luck one or the other will work better for you, neither are perfect

  • "thin" sound can be fixed by updating to the latest version of this package, or manually patching the alsa patch to your kernel
  • there's currently no programs that can take advantage of the NPU, so unless you're actively hacking on llama.cpp/ollama/etc there's no major benefit
  • Not sure where you got the idea of bad CPU performance/power management from
  • linux-firmware-amd-staging-um5606-git: that was only relevant a few months ago back when random freezes were far more of an issue with the GPU (which is no longer an issue).

Thanks for updating, @That1Calculator! No worries at all.

So, if I use the mainline kernel (6.12) and the kernel parameter (amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x600), will the laptop run more or less stable? Which issues are to be expected ("thin" sound? NPU not working? Bad CPU performance/power management?)? And which of these issues can currently be fixed by linux-mainline-um5606A and/or linux-firmware-amd-staging-um5606-git?

@emfol @MrQ apologies for the sloppy mistakes last night, updated while I was very jetlagged lol

Hey, @MrQ. The maintainer might have the fix merged in soon but you need to apply the changes from http://0x0.st/X7-t.diff to your local PKGBUILD file in order to have a clean build.

@VanKurt I have the same "freezing" issue (even with the latest kernel versions) if I do not add the amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x600 kernel parameter. After adding that parameter the freezing issue should stop. The current version of the official Arch Linux kernel (6.12.1-arch1-1) is very stable for me but I MUST use the kernel parameter above. I tried the 6.13-rc1 today which solves to tiny-audio issue but it apparently introduced a regression which breaks the screen-brigntness control...
