@Gimmeapill Understood. I had reported the problem in the forum of mixxx. The problem seems to be bound to Archlinux due to a newer version of faad. Refer to the discussion here: https://www.mixxx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13157

@ravingjerk: Interesting find. I never tested much m4a, but if this is happening with the stable build, you'd probably better report it upstream. I can edit the pkgbuild, but I'm afraid that disabling explicitly faad in order to have m4a files play correctly will raise more questions than it solves ;-)

I encountered some problems with m4a files. The track loads but shows no waveform and outputs no sound when played. This behaviour also occured with the repository version 2.2.3.
I ended up setting faad = 0 while keeping ffmpeg = 1 in PKGBUILD, now I can play m4a files (with waveform).

@Sebalis: ok, I enabled ffmpeg by default (to align with the official package). Please try also with the stable version, as it might be worth reporting. But it could be also an issue with your source files like: https://www.mixxx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12467

Now I’ve found that I can play those .ogg files simply by renaming them to .opus. Mixxx used to be more flexible, but at least I have a solution for playing my files. (I edited the database and changed to “location” and “filename” fields in the "track_locations" table, that way I could preserve Mixxx’s memory of those files – play history and analysis data.)

I see that the libv2 dependency has been added, but that has not resolved my issues with OGG files. As reported much earlier here, I manually add the "ffmpeg=1" assignment to the scons command line in the build function. The file I have tried is one that I converted from FLAC to OGG. When trying to open the file, mixxx writes this to the console (I have replaced the filename with "*.ogg"):
Warning [CachingReaderWorker 1]: SoundSourceOggVorbis - Unsupported format in ".ogg" Warning [CachingReaderWorker 1]: SoundSourceProxy - Unable to open file ".ogg" with provider "Xiph.org OggVorbis" using mode Strict Warning [CachingReaderWorker 1]: SoundSourceSndFile - Error opening libsndfile file: ".ogg" "File contains data in an unimplemented format." Warning [CachingReaderWorker 1]: SoundSourceProxy - Unable to open file ".ogg" with provider "libsndfile" using mode Strict Warning [CachingReaderWorker 1]: SoundSourceOggVorbis - Unsupported format in ".ogg" Warning [CachingReaderWorker 1]: SoundSourceProxy - Unable to open file ".ogg" with provider "Xiph.org OggVorbis" using mode Permissive Warning [CachingReaderWorker 1]: SoundSourceSndFile - Error opening libsndfile file: ".ogg" "File contains data in an unimplemented format." Warning [CachingReaderWorker 1]: SoundSourceProxy - Failed to open file ".ogg" with provider "libsndfile" Warning [CachingReaderWorker 1]: CachingReaderWorker - "[Channel1]" Failed to open file "*.ogg"
MediaInfo describes the file like this:
Format : Ogg Overall bit rate : 135 kb/s Writing application : Lavc58.54.100 libopus Audio ID : 2964035587 (0xB0AB9803) Format : Opus Duration : 4 min 36 s Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel layout : L R Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz Compression mode : Lossy Writing library : Lavf58.29.100
The conversion from a FLAC was done with this command:
ffmpeg -i "$f" -c:a libopus -b:a 128K -vbr:a on -vn "$( basename "$f" .flac ).ogg";
I’d be very grateful for advice, because for a few weeks now I have been unable to open a major part of my music files in mixxx.

@sebalis: I did a quick test, and based on the build log this shouldn't be needed, but I see that the official package just added "libogg" as an explicit dependency. So you may try that. It seems also that we have now a default dependency on "lv2". In short it looks like a full review of the build flags and dependencies is needed. I will try to get on it this WE...no promise though...

When I had to rebuild this package recently, I noticed that mixxx has stopped playing ogg files. It simply pops up a dialogue saying “The file '…' could not be loaded”. Any ideas?

@rryan: Still no success with the branch, so the revision will have to do for now. At least this should avoid confusion with the stable releases (as previously requested).

For those looking for something more stable than the alpha/default branch, there's another git pkgbuild for the 2.3 branch (beta), which should be reliable enough for daily use: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mixxx_beta-git/

This package will automatically retrieve and build the latest development snapshot of Mixxx from git (default branch).
It does not need to be updated on every release, so please do not flag out of date unless the build breaks or any actual packaging issue.
