Hi Calimero,
The reason for the dependency on lxterminal is due to the openbox-menu.patch and menu.patch files, which modify how terminal applications are opened by Openbox-menu. The original code uses xterm, but it has been replaced by lxterminal.
If you prefer not to use lxterminal, you can modify the PKGBUILD file as follows:
1. Remove those lines:
2. Replace lxterminal with xterm in the dependencies:
This will revert to using xterm as originally intended.
Thanks!

Excuse me, but why exactly is there a dependency on lxterminal now?

As of 2023, the releases are available on github. For example, https://github.com/fabriceT/openbox-menu/archive/refs/tags/v0.8.0.tar.gz.

I was able to find a version that compiles online. Uploaded it to SourceForge and modified the PKGFILE to use it. Now working fine for those of us who still wants to use it. I'll maintain it since kyak (original submitter) decided to switch to obmenu-generator and disowned this package for good (see comments below).

openbox-menu project is abandoned by its author. He moved to github from bitbucket, but didn't move releases/tags. So this package won't build anymore.
I've switched over to obmenu-generator and disowning this package for good.

@kyak Thank you for your advice.
Since the whole project is 3 years after last update, I just tried to fix it by myself. Now I've commented the issue and show my workaround. I'll mail the author later if no reply in bitbucket.

@RedSky Thanks for your effort in patching this problem you are facing.
You should send the patch (or pull request) to upstream authors. This way, everyone will benefit from this change, and not just Arch Linux AUR users. Also, it will enable feedback and review from original author and more eyes. Moreover, Arch approach is to provide as much vanilla packages as possible and only patch when it is absolutely necessary.
Thus said, the patch should be forced upstream and not applied ad-hoc to this package.
