Thanks. That got me to the point I can build, once I removed 'trial' from the 7z filename and skipped checksums.
I end up with something called 'Pianoteq 8'.
I tried putting that in both ~/.vst and in ~/.vst3, which are in my Bitwig Studio plug-in location paths, but it still does not show up. I also tried renaming it to something more Arch-like, ie. pianoteq8.vst, pianoteq8.vst3 etc, no luck.

The pianoteq_linux_v8xx.7z
distribution archive must be downloaded manually.
Got to http://modartt.com/try, log in by clicking on "User area", and when you are logged in, click on "Download the latest version: 8.x.x". Place the file which you can then download next to the PKGBUILD file.

I see no link to mark out-of-date. I have tried also git version and trial version, but everything gives ERROR: pianoteq_linux_v840.7z was not found in the build directory and is not a URL. (or similar for other versions).
The file in the PKGBUILD sets version to "8.4.0" and somehow it looks like that converts to "v840".
This is beyond my PKGBUILD foo. btw, I used pianoteq many years ago, no problem, before I was even on Arch. Also, fyi, know it probably doesn't belong here but I fell down this rabbit hole trying to get Keyscape working in various DAW.

@bluetail: that's not how it normally works. If there is a new version and the AUR package isn't updated, use the link in the upper right to mark it as out-of-date. If you want to help the maintainers and have prepared an updated PKGBUILD, upload it somewhere, e.g. a pastebin site like cpaste.org and post a link here. Adding you as a co-maintainer eventually comes afterwards. In any case it has to be done by the main maintainer.

I made an improved (IMHO) PKGBUILD. You can get it here:
https://gist.github.com/SpotlightKid/a0d71aa401cbbebaea8a83bf12eebf07
Changes are listed in the Gist.

Can you please change:
provides=("${pkgname%-*}")
conflicts=("${pkgname%-*}" "pianoteq-stage" "pianoteq-standard-trial-bin")
to just
conflicts=("pianoteq-stage" "pianoteq-standard-trial-bin")
That would allow installing packages pianoteq
and pianoteq7
along-side each other. The provides
line is superfluous, since it's the same as the package name.

Where can I find the new checksums?
EDIT: customer support got there first :-) The new checksum is
