Arch Linux User Repository

Thanks to Bevan, we now have a simple and elegant (compared to my attempt) workaround that lets the PKGBUILD download and use the most recent version of maven (currently 3.9.4). Should not need any intervention from you. :)

Current PKGBUILD uses mvn during build which writes files to ~/.m2/ (users home directory), as such leaving the specified build directory. This leaves unnecessary residual files after finishing the build and breaks when trying to build using dummy-users without a valid $HOME (among others AUR-helpers like pikaur work this way). To keep the build clean the maven cache directory should be relocated to something inside srcdir: mvn clean install -Dgenerate-target-platform=true -Dtycho.disableP2Mirrors -Dmaven.repo.local=$srcdir/.mvn

@Mischko Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I'm aware of this possibility, but I'm usually hesitant in adding further repositories to my pacman.conf. In any case, I expect that we will soon enjoy a version of portfolio that foregoes the dependency on webkitgtk2, and employs webkit2gtk for diagrams instead. In the meantime, for all of you who don't want to compile webkitgtk2, the binary offered by archlinuxcn is certainly a viable option.

@Cobra same problem with compiling webkitgtk2 the entire night. What about the solution suggested here? https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/webkitgtk2/

Append the following section to /etc/pacman.conf:

[archlinuxcn] Server = https://cdn.repo.archlinuxcn.org/$arch

And installing as if it were official packages:

sudo pacman -S webkitgtk2

Works really well for me.

@sandstorm At the moment, webkitgtk2 is required for displaying the diagrams in portfolio, such as the donut or ring diagram in “Statement of Assets – Holdings”. The developer is aware of this unfortunate situation and is working on a solution: https://github.com/buchen/portfolio/issues/769. The changes he made in the inofficial snapshot 0.30.2 did not make it into the stable build 0.31, but I very much hope into the next release. Compiling webkitgtk2 really sucks. :/

Is there any reason why webkitgtk2 is the dependency? I built portfolio with the webkit2gtk package, which is part of the extra repository and it works fine.

@obi8 I'm not entirely sure, but it seems that you are affected by the same issue as bluepill. I've found a post in the forum of the developer (https://forum.portfolio-performance.info/t/build-maven-problem/2129/2) referring to an error report in the eclipse community forums that looks suspiciously close to yours. And indeed, two weeks later version 0.29 was published with the comment “Fixed build error when downloading bundles from Babel update site” (https://github.com/buchen/portfolio), but at that time, I didn't see that the fix simply consisted of adding -Dtycho.disableP2Mirrors to the maven call. I have just updated the PKGBUILD accordingly. On my systems, I can compile portfolio with this option or without, it doesn't make any difference. However, I hope that it will help in your case.

I am trying to install the program Portfolio 0.29. The compilation process terminates with the following message:

@bluepill None of that happens on my three Arch boxes. I don't have gauche installed, and I don't add anything to the maven call, but the package compiles and runs flawlessly on any of them. Of course, in any other case I would have pinned a corresponding comment to the top and would currently deperately try to solve the issues. ;)

Read my comment from 2016-11-02. It's worth a try to delete the folders I have indicated there.

Doesn't build unless adding '-Dtycho.disableP2Mirrors' to the maven call. Also, 'gosh' has to be installed via the 'gauche' package.

The application still fails with 'java.lang.RuntimeException: Application "org.eclipse.e4.ui.workbench.swt.E4Application" could not be found in the registry. [...]' in the log file.
