@petronny Good catch, I hadn't noticed that. However, that diff is backwards, from 1.8.1 to 1.7.12, meaning that the Github workflow installed
r-roxygen2
andr-pkgbuild
in 1.7.12, but those were removed in 1.8.1. And as you said, those were only used with the bundled icu, which isn't used in this AUR package.@peippo Upstream having a CI workflow that installs those packages does not mean that the packages are actually needed. The package metadata in the DESCRIPTION file determines the dependencies.

In https://github.com/gagolews/stringi/compare/v1.8.1..v1.7.12#diff-20a634bd14b575dda52253fb9e147e7e4d6e6284924cc77f33a726223abb9403R23
I see r-roxygen2 and r-pkgbuild are needed to build the r-icu bundle, not r-stringi. I don't see any other change suggests r-roxygen2 and r-pkgbuild are needed for r-stringi.

@peippo How is the diff relevant to this discussion? All the documentation is already pre-generated in the source archive, so
r-roxygen2
is not needed during package build. Also I don't see any mentions ofr-pkgbuild
orr-cpp11
in the sources, so those are not needed either. The dependency cycle now prevents building
r-stringi
andr-roxygen2

Why the addition of
r-roxygen2
andr-pkgbuild
intomakedepends
? Those packages aren't needed, and this also created a dependency cycle, sincer-roxygen2
depends onr-stringi
.r-cpp11
is also not needed independs

Hi, the source 404's, due to the r package being updated.

Hello, thanks for maintaining this package. Recently this package was broken because of
icu
update and it had to be recompiled. Can you consider adding a direct dependency to alibicui18n.so=72-64

I'm leaving maintenance and support for this package in favor of new repository. You can install pre-built packages from my repo
