@aggraef Now I understand why and it makes sense. I will consider requesting arch-proaudio when I start using showmidi more often again. Thanks kindly.

@tkna, there is no Arch binary package, and I wouldn't want to repackage the Ubuntu package instead, as it's likely to break on Arch with all the shared library dependencies.
I could maybe throw up a proper Arch package on the Open Build Service, but I'm always short on time. I was hoping that @dvzrv would pick up the package, but that didn't happen yet. Feel free to ask for a package (pointing to the present AUR package) on the arch-proaudio mailing list.

Since it takes a long time to build, it would be useful to have a separate build version such as showmidi-bin
. I would be happy if you would consider creating a package. https://github.com/gbevin/ShowMIDI/releases/

This fails to build with the following message:
==> Starting package()...
install: cannot stat '/build/showmidi/src/../showmidi.desktop': No such file or directory

@dvzrv, maybe you could adopt this, so that it lands in the official Arch repos?

This is a cool new graphical MIDI monitor program, available as both standalone app and plugins. This build includes the standalone, LV2 and VST3 plugins, desktop file and icon, and the factory themes (the latter can be found under /usr/share/ShowMIDI/Themes).
The author of this program is Geert Bevin (LinnStrument, Moog synths, etc., you know the guy). There's not much documentation at present, but the app is pretty self-explanatory and a pointer to a YT video can be found on the GH page. Open the sidebar on the left for various configuration options.
