I am getting an error:
$ tuxmath
T4K_AddRect() - 'update' ptr invalid!
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
This is a x86_64 system fully up to date.
EDIT 1: I did nothing else, and upon turning on my computer again this morning and running tuxmath, no errors and it seems to be working fine. I didn't even update the system after I saw the error for the first time.
EDIT 2: I discovered that after opening it again, I saw the same error. Then, I tried to open it a few more times and in one of those tries, it worked and I was able to practice and it didn't crash during the practice (about 10 mins).

Hello,
Thanks for the feedback. I updated both packages with the new URLs. Just FYI this issue has been reported to the tuxmath mailing list, but with no reply or action taken so far from the developers.

Both the t4k_common and the tuxmath source tarball urls are redirected to the alioth login page so the resulting downloads are html files instead of tarballs.
I described an ad-hoc solution using random locations at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1454574#p1454574 but
The wrong urls:
https://alioth.debian.org/frs/download.php/file/3571/tuxmath_w_fonts-2.0.3.tar.gz
https://alioth.debian.org/frs/download.php/file/3540/t4k_common-0.1.1.tar.gz

Now it shouldn't ask for sdl_ttf: fixed with t4k_common-0.0.3-2

I have sdl_pango. Any way, I installed sdl_ttf (which I didn't have) and
it installed fine. Thanks for the package.

reported upstream
https://alioth.debian.org/forum/forum.php?thread_id=14817&forum_id=2467&group_id=31080
readme and install states that it will use sdl_pango if available and if not then fall back to sdl_ttf

The compilation stopped at this point:
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lSDL_ttf
