I had to install glib2-devel.

The error was: valent/src/libvalent/core/meson.build:97:29: ERROR: Dependency 'glib-2.0' tool variable 'glib_mkenums' contains erroneous value: '/usr/bin/glib-mkenums'

With the update to Gnome 46, valent-git is compiling again.

Latest doesn't want to build. Looks like it needs a later version of libadwaita-1.

=== Dependency libadwaita-1 found: NO found 1.4.4 but need: '>= 1.5' Found CMake: /usr/bin/cmake (3.28.4) Run-time dependency libadwaita-1 found: NO (tried cmake)

valent/meson.build:222:17: ERROR: Dependency lookup for libadwaita-1 with method 'pkgconfig' failed: Invalid version, need 'libadwaita-1' ['>= 1.5'] found '1.4.4'.

@juanmah: There's something weird with the repo right now, not sure what. There are now newer commits in main and the pkgver isn't updating. Don't let your AUR helper "update" it, just ignore it.

@yochananmarqos, it happens again. The installed version has an extra "c" that the online version does not have.

aur/valent-git 1.0.0.alpha.45.r0.gac5fcf0c-1 -> 1.0.0.alpha.45.r0.gac5fcf0-1

@juanmah: Hmm... Well, for some reason the pkgver() function spat out 9 digits of the commit hash instead of 7. There's no suffix. Either way, it's corrected now.

juanmah commented on 2024-03-19 02:11 (UTC)

There is an extra c in the suffix. This causes once installed to detect it as needing to be installed again. It always pops up to update, time and time again.

@je-vv: the g is a prefix, not part of the commit hash.

No, there is no stable release. See the commit comment:

Release valent-1.0.0.alpha.45

This is nominal release; it contains no meaningful changelog and is not a indication that the project has reached any particular state of stability.

Hi !

valent-git got the wrong pkgversion, see the last release:

https://github.com/andyholmes/valent/releases/tag/v1.0.0.alpha.45

If you notice, the short commit sha is ac5fcf0, and not gac5fcf0cc as currently set in the PKGBUILD.

BTW, now that there's this 1st release, would it be the right time to move to not -git versions, and instead use tarball releases? Just wondering, I guess it would be good to see the releases frequency.

Thanks @yochananmarqos: Am on an different Arch based distro and hadn't thought to look in the official repos. Am now sorted.
