That makes it a pain to upgrade, you would have to uninstall and reinstall this package every time vbox is upgraded instead of just upgrading it when needed.

Please do add the exact version dependency so that upgrades of the main package prompt a conflict that we then know to go fix. Thanks.
depends=("virtualbox=${pkgver}")

But do not bump pkgrel :D

add to pkgbuild:
depends=("virtualbox=${pkgver}")

BTW, it can be fixed by explicit version in "Dependencies", can not it be?

@ngoonee, that's because this package was update to 4.3 while virtualbox in the repos is still 4.2.18. You shouldn't update this package until virtualbox itself is updated.

Will be soon out of date, as VirtualBox 4.3.0 was released on 15 october : http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/2033376

@reed1
What's your virtualbox version? Had the same error message, reason was that I had updated the ext-pack to 2.18 but virtualbox was still 2.16.

I do not get this, so I suppose you need to reboot or shutdown guests, reload the new host modules and then start the guests.

There is no version dependency on this package on purpose! You could read comments back from 2011 to understand why.
