If anyone wants it, I can fairly trivially write a launcher script to support XDG DATA DIR for your basedir (ie, instead of having to own /opt/vkquake2/baseq2, you would put your paks in ~/.local/share/vkquake2/baseq2). I'd just need to check and symlink the game lib and have it launch with +set basedir.
The current package is closer to upstream through, and we'll see if they want to support user basedirs natively.
