NOTE: Issues regarding icu library files not being found, such as

vpn-unlimited: error while loading shared libraries: libicudata.so.73: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

are not strictly related to this package, but to boost174. Each time the icu package in the official repositories is updated to a new major version, boost174 needs to be rebuilt.

You don't need to install any version of icu other than the package available in the official repositories. To resolve the issue, either rebuild boost174 yourself or, even better, leave a comment in boost174 so I can publish a new pkgver and as such force a rebuild for all users.

@alkalien, you could have written the reason(s) in your very first message.

Obviously, the developers do not want to give support for Linux distributions other than the Ubuntu family. When I use some version of the package, and it works, and it does not show a "new version" when I check for updates, I see no reason to update the package. According to your diff, they have changed the dependency, which could have been enough for them to bump their versions in some way... such as, e.g., semver. Where do we draw the line? If they release Ubuntu XYZ deb files with the same version every week, should I need to follow this upstream? I just fire up the package and check for updates there.

Anyways, the package is updated. However, us being on a rolling release does not have anything to do with this package. When I look at their version numbers and check the program's own "Check for update" functionality, I can clearly see that both Trusty and Bionic versions are the same, which pisses me off and which was the main reason for me to stick with the version already working on my machine. If the upstream cares enough, they can bump their version and let us know through the package rather than sharing this info privately via emails.

@aytekinar they are not the same, the package build you provide doesn't work on my machine, but at the same time the 4.23-bionic installed via debtap works flawlessly, i e-mailed the developers and they too advised me not to install the older 4.23-trusty.

And since we are all on a rolling release distro, i don't see any reason not to update it, which is why i have flagged the package as out-of-date, why do you want to stick with the older trusty version, any reasons in particular ??

Hi @tsdh,

Unfortunately, no. I could not find the cause as I cannot reproduce the problem on my machine. I am using i3-wm as my window manager, when I run it, I get the following:

 ~ > sudo systemctl start vpn-unlimited-daemon
[sudo] password for aytekin:
 ~ > vpn-unlimited

For me, the application immediately crashes after its main window becomes visible. That's the console output:

Ah, just seeing that @victorbrca had the same issue with the previous version. Did you find out the cause?

aytekinar commented on 2018-09-30 18:36 (UTC)

@alkalien, could you please elaborate on why you flagged the package out of date and why you wanted to have the bionic version, please? Apparently, both versions are 4.23, which is the up-to-date version. When I run VPN Unlimited and check for updates, the program states that the version is already the current one.

alkalien commented on 2018-09-29 19:48 (UTC) (edited on 2018-09-29 19:49 (UTC) by alkalien)

@aytekinar, could you update this package so as to be in sync with the 4.23 bionic release ?

aytekinar commented on 2018-07-09 09:07 (UTC)

Hi @victorbrca. Unfortunately, I do not seem to have such an error. I do not blindly push changes to AUR; instead, I first install the latest version on my machine, try connecting to different servers via VPN Unlimited, and finally push the version to AUR. On my system with Linux KTH-5435 4.17.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 3 15:45:09 UTC 2018 x86_64 GNU/Linux and i3-wm 4.15-1, the program is running properly. I have just tested it. Unfortunately, because I cannot reproduce the same problem, I cannot help you in this case. By the way, when debugging, I noticed that I needed to add lsb-release as a dependency, which seems to be already installed on your machine. I will push the pkgrel=2 version to AUR soon, which I doubt would help you in your specific issue. Sorry...

Installed the new one (4.22) but it doesn't seem to work. The UI locks up and I get the following:

The solution for me : I had Oracle Java Runtime Environment (jre 9.0.4-1) installed. I removed it and now it works.
