Thanks for pointing that out, I'm gonna make sure it's intentional that there isn't a tag upstream.
I'm pretty sure what's going on there is we (upstream) decided to bump the version just after a release instead of just before because we kept forgetting to do it when making a release (I can't remember what exactly was discussed, I should probably refer to chatlogs before making claims like this).
I have commit access to the upstream, so I'd rather fix issues like you're describing there. That said fetching source through git might not be a bad idea to make this a bit more reproducible.

maybe the build should be switched to a git based one? Offers the choice between
#commit=
and#tag=
and allows to easily switch if upstream forget to push tags?Because this seems to be the case, as there is a version bump to 0.16 but no tag for it like it was done for previous versions.
So in general this package is out of date, but with the current way of building it cannot be updated :D
