This package will be kept in sync with the openzfs latest stable release and the kernels officially supported by it.

For the supported kernel versions, refer to the respective openzfs release notes (LINK).

E.g. openzfs 2.3.1 supports kernel versions 4.18 - 6.13. When kernel 6.14 is released for Arch, zfs-linux will not be updated until the openzfs project announces that it's compatible. This will most likely happen with the next openzfs release.

The kernel compatibility of the upcoming openzfs release can be seen in their META file (LINK).

For those wishing to use openzfs with unsupported kernels, do note that this could lead to serious issues, including data loss, even though such a zfs-linux package might build and install cleanly. Have reliable backups and use such a package at your peril.

Please do not mark this package as out of date without checking the kernel compatibility first. Thank you!

every time I check on this package, it has been updated, but it is still out of date because linux has subsequently also updated. Whenever this package is out of date, which is almost always, I cannot upgrade my sysem at all.

surely there's a better way?

@francoism90, are you really sure you want to use zfs encryption as soon as it is released ? You want to beta test this ? I am interested in it too, but I will wait a little wait for it to get more stable before using it.

@francoism90 No, no yet. It might get included in zfs 0.8

Can someone please confirm if ZFS encryption now has been included in stable?

After the latest update ZFS didn't start on boot. I had to re-enable zfs-import.target and now it's fine.

Working on it (https://github.com/archzfs/archzfs/issues/192, https://github.com/archzfs/archzfs/pull/193)

It's because the patch for linux 4.14 hasn't made it into a stable release yet

@eblau I have the exact same problem, both with this and the DKMS version.

I'm hitting errors booting from a root zfs filesystem after installing the latest (0.7.3.4.14.3.1-1):

modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'zfs': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

When I check dmesg, I see:

spl: Unknown symbol vfs_write (err 0)

spl: Unknown symbol vfs_read (err 0)

spl: Unknown symbol vfs_write (err 0)

spl: Unknown symbol vfs_read (err 0)

I checked both zfs and spl kernel modules with modinfo and they show the version as 0.7.3-1 and vermagic as 4.14.3-1-ARCH so it appears that I have the correct modules installed and loaded in the initramfs.

I downgraded to kernel 4.13.12 and everything works fine.

New packages with OpenZFS 0.7.0 support have been pushed to the archzfs repo for linux and linux-lts kernels However, the PKGBUILDs for spl-linux and zfs-linux have been changed to split packages and I cannot upload the updated PKGBUILDS to AUR until the (spl|zfs)-${KERNEL}-headers repos are removed by the admins.
