You can remove ncurses and openssl-1.0 from deps as you already install ncurses from The Internet Archive, and you can do the same with openssl-1.0.
I already did that in https://pastebin.com/FRrPC53p, as well as taking care of some other things like unquoted variables, mixed variable style (${pkgname} instead of $pkgname), etc.
@TheYellowArchite, I'm not sure why the CD rom reader isn't working. I'm not sure there's much I can do about that. Epsxe is a precompiled binary.
I've got the peopsgl plugin working. The configure at least. I'm using a VM to do all this so I'm not sure if the peopsgl plugin is working or if it's the VM.
Plugins installation is borked
I know v.2.0.6 is available on Android, but there's still no release for PC
I've gotten the plugins building, but I'm a little unsure of one solution in the gpu.c file.
I've also included the fix for the LIBCURL error.
Let me know if y'all encounter any issues.
I just confirmed that the workaround of @rrichard works.
I had even previously downloaded official binaries from ePSXe's website (2.05 and 2.02) both 64-bit and 32-bit, but that line of "version CURL_OPENSSL_3 not found" always blocked me regardless of what packages I downloaded.
I downloaded this, ran @rrichard's 2 commands, and it works!
Edit: ALSA has serious problems:
Init core spu ... ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1000:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
unable to open pcm device: No such file or directory
Error: can't open sound handler.
and it crashes basically.
If I try -nosound, it works but there is a black screen. Anyway, idk if its my configs or to blame being from 2016
Also File -> Run CD/ROM doesn't open.

i was having this same issue. the issue for me had nothing to do with libncurses, its the third line that needs fixing.
I fixed it simply by running
cd /opt/epsxe sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libcurl-compat.so.4.8.0 libcurl.so.4

I'll look over this in the next couple of days. Been busy with studies.
Got this building in i686 so the plugins on AUR work. Skipped checksums, changed all source paths with CARCH in them to i686. Changed the mv in prepare to "ePSXe" "$pkgname". Hackish but pacman refused to install package if i changed CHARCH to i686.
Changed start script epsxe.sh to: LD_LIBRARY_PATH+=:/opt/epsxe LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libcurl.so.3 padsp /opt/epsxe/epsxe "$@"
padsp is there for OSS sound plugin to work under pulseaudio, probably remove that if using another sound server.
Copied /opt/epsxe/cfg and /opt/epsxe/plugins to ~/.epsxe/ for plugins to show up.
