Peterix said he no longer wanted to maintain an AUR package which seems like abandoning it to me.
He could have re-submitted the package with the changes that needed to be made but he said he would no longer support the AUR.

Since peterix is no longer willing to maintain multimc-bin
, I request to have this package renamed to multimc-bin
to better reflect what it is.
None of the loose files directly in this repo are proprietary. The desktop file is reused from multimc5
, the svg is a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 reproduction from surfn
, and the shell wrapper is written by me. We are using the official build binaries so the build fingerprint is same.

https://lists.archlinux.org/pipermail/aur-requests/2021-December/ Not exactly abandoned

Looks like the main developer has also said that "anything from the AUR is not supported here from now on", and might implement fingerprinting into their Discord server's bot, making support there impossible as well.

Will do!

For updates please use the "Flag package out-of-date" button. Do not bother developers on GitHub for install issues. At least one developer have indicated that they are unwilling to work with downstream packagers that do not use their update script.
DO NOT HARASS THE DEVELOPERS. Please abide by the AUR COC. This is a package, not a battlefield. No need to be childish about this.

Looks like upstream doesn't care about making proper releases. They've suggested using an alternative link here: https://github.com/MultiMC/Launcher/issues/4318#issuecomment-988614607

This breaks the updater and is entirely pointless. Please don't do this.

Thanks for the package! I'm just having an error when installing it remotely:
==> Starting pkgver()...
qt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
EDIT: Ran DISPLAY=:0 yay -S multimc-native
and it worked nicely. Thanks again :)

I recommend using prismlauncher from the official repos instead of PolyMC.
