Hey I tried installing this, as I have a 170hz monitor but have been stuck at 120. It works well and I'm able to switch back to 170hz, but trying to open steam throws the error
SteamUpdateUI: An X Error occurred X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation).
I'm using hyprland under arch linux with a 3060ti.

@Vrakfall it is exclusive to Sway/wlroots AND Wayland Plasma.
This is not a X11 bug and yes X11 works.
Many reports have been around for over a month now.. everyone is left waiting on NVIDIA to fix this. I don't believe this is to blame on wlroots or Plasma.
UPDATE: Finally did some more testing and I can say now that ALL desktops running under wayland will system failure to blackscreen and non-recoverable without reboot if screen hz is above 75.
This includes GNOME as I've did more testing now and found out that also is affected. So a pretty damn major NVIDIA bug if I do say so myself!
...... ......
I DARE SAY that someone SMART enough could find a little hacky fix for this problem as the displays WORK above 75hz if you have them set to that or lower on launch then adjust them afterwards. This is related to compositor launch (I've tested without SDDM login method)
So you could do a hacky thing where it sets them to 60hz on WL launch then sets them back to your proper hz once compositor has loaded. I could probably figure this out eventually but cbf atm.
(or someone could just fix the bug somehow. lol)

@theriddick Sorry for the late response, I was away for a few days.
Wayland
orXorg
?Wayland
, try to see if it changes withXorg
. I usually prefer advocatingWayland
butNvidia
is typically the kind of reasons that keeps people usingXorg
these days.525.89.02
(use commitdf47fb6
as the previous one won't build).525.116.04
if I recall correctly), see if it helps with your case but I've got my doubts.theriddick commented on 2023-05-10 01:14 (UTC)
@Vrakfall It prevents login entirely. Upon login the screen goes blank and system locks up if refresh rate is set above 75hz.
You can create a NEW ACC and login at 60hz then switch to 120hz no problem, but the second you logout and attempt to login again, broken.
I've combed through the internet, there is no fix atm for either driver.
Running 525 from what I understand only fixes the game stutter bug which is entirely different problem!

@theriddick I'm sorry to hear that. Did you check you removed all current branch nvidia packages? Does it happen mostly in games or in your DE too?

Sadly these did not fix my high refresh rate black-screen and lockup with Wayland on my 4090. It is odd as it helped for people with other models of cards.
Again if I login to an account with 60hz, no problem, set to 120hz, relog, no good. :(
