tperami: good idea – done.

Could you mark this package as providing and conflicting with rocketchat-desktop? That would allow the installation of one of them to automatically uninstall the other

I switched to this package today (again) because the update of electron to 16.0.7-2 breaks the ability to scroll up when using rocketchat-desktop (recompiling does not solve the problem). So yeah, this package is definitely needed because it is the less troubled road of using Rocketchat on Arch. I had to use it several times in the past because rocketchat-desktop had issues.

Today I had to use this package as the one build in rocketchat-desktop caused electron errors on launch. So there's still a use-case for me. :)

Does anybody still need this package? There is also rocketchat-desktop, which should be preferred, because it builds from source.

@aminvakil: Thanks! Usually I'm using the regular linux kernel, but you're right, I accidentally booted linux-harded that time. Can you explain what's different for linux-hardened that those special permissions are required for Rocket.Chat?

aminvakil commented on 2021-03-23 13:20 (UTC)

@user20159 Do you use linux-hardened? That's normal then.

Strange. rocketchat-desktop works smoothly for me. And I'd rather not want to have a setuid root binary packaged, since the security risk is too high.

Do you have any special setup, user20159?

I got the following error out of nowhere when trying to launch Rocket.Chat:

$ rocketchat-desktop
[1624:0323/082401.497863:FATAL:setuid_sandbox_host.cc(158)] The SUID sandbox helper binary was found, but is not configured correctly. Rather than run without sandboxing I'm aborting now. You need to make sure that /opt/Rocket.Chat/chrome-sandbox is owned by root and has mode 4755.
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

Uninstalling and re-building the package did not fix it. I had to manually do

$ sudo chmod 4755 /opt/Rocket.Chat/chrome-sandbox

To fix it.
