I have finally updated the package to 2.1.0. It was a bit of a PITA, since it requires older versions of gssdp and gupnp, but those are in the AUR now, too.

Fax printer setup is greatly simplified in Roger Router 2, you just need to run:

lpadmin -p Roger-Router-Fax -m drv:///sample.drv/generic.ppd -v socket://localhost:9100/ -E -o PageSize=A4

No need to fiddle with groups or spooling device anymore.

Apart from that I am actually looking for someone who is willing to co-maintain this package with me. The last months made it clear that I lack the time to do bigger updates, and the changes with Roger Router 2 are quite significant. Also upstream, understandible, is focusing on the Flatpak distribution, hence build requirements and build procedure are no longer as clearly documented. For now I think this PKGBUILD is fine, but there could be some tuning in regards to what dependencies are really needed on runtime.

@mozon: See the comment by TNC; they changed the download URL. Will update the package soon

Installation is not possible. curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found ==> FEHLER: Fehler beim Download von https://www.tabos.org/downloads/roger-router-1.9.3.tar.xz Breche ab... ==> FEHLER:Makepkg konnte roger-router nicht erstellen. Any suggestions ?

The link seems to have changed into: https://www.tabos.org/wp-content/uploads/tabos/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.xz

Important notes:

  • If you have libsecret installed it is recommended that you also install a compatible keyring application such as gnome-keyring. As an alternative you can use Roger Router's built-in "Simple password" storage, which can be configured in the settings under Advanced -> Security.

  • To use the printer follow the post install messages, basically run:

    lpadmin -p "Roger-Router-Fax" -E -v roger-cups:/ -P /usr/share/cups/model/roger-fax.ppd
    gpasswd --add [username] lp

  • If you build roger-router inside a chroot environment and want to make sure you build it with support for all optional dependencies edit the PKGBUILD and uncomment the makedepends line with all build dependencies added.

@phw, thank you for your quick answer. I haven't noticed the configurable password option. Seems like it is simply an upstream bug that "GNOME Keyring" is selected by default (even though it is not always installed) and the wizard fails without an informative error message or the option to use "Simple password" instead.

@tsuflux: I don't know what you mean with "same issue as tuxflo"? gnome-keyring is definitely not a hard requirement, as you said you can use any service implementing org.freedesktop.secrets. And even libsecret is not a hard requirement, you can happily run roger router without it, just it won't be possible to store passwords in e.g. gnome-keyring then. Have a look at the settings under Advanced -> Security. Without libsecret you will only have "Simple password" as a password storage option.

I have the same issue as tuxflo: gnome-keyring (or any other service implementing org.freedesktop.secrets such as ksecretservice) is a hard dependency for Roger Router. libsecret cannot store passwords on its own.

@tm-x: Thanks for informing me, fixed

The build fails with error: cp: cannot stat '../../address-book.svg': No such file or directory Any reason for not using the $srcdir PKGBUILD variable? Taken from wiki: "srcdir: This points to the directory where makepkg extracts or symlinks all files in the source array." cp $srcdir/address-book.svg roger/images/ Fixed it for me.
