I see an "Error occurred while generating preview" when simply trying to preview a formula. This error has appeared since the last textext update on 2023-07-31.

I've reported this issue in GitHub and the textext developers think it is a packaging problem.

@joelsc @carlosal1015 : any ideas on why is this happening?

Link to the developer's reply and a minimal working example on top of the post:

I use an unbelievable ugly workaround now: I downloaded an older version of inkscape as app image, which doesn't segfault when executing the conversion command. I manually installed textext, and changed the python code so instead of the used installed version, textext calls the local appimage only for this. Note, that I still use the system installation of inkscape, however, by changing the code textext just calls the appimage version of inkscape just for this one conversion command.

I encounter the same problem as herrzinter using the latest version of textext (install form tar.gz) When running the test from https://textext.github.io/textext/usage/troubleshooting.html the following command inkscape --pdf-poppler --pdf-page=1 --export-type=svg --export-text-to-path --export-area-drawing --export-filename test.svg test.pdf exit on a core dump.

Also who is the keyserver for 7A9964831E98EED5?

I followed the textext troubleshooting guidelines and found that inkscape segfaults when I try to convert the described test pdf to an SVG in the command line. This is probably also the thing going wrong when I'm using textext. I filed a bug report with inkscape as I guess this not really a textext issue. Still a pretty strange error. Thanks for your quick response!

Hi @herrzinter, when I am using textext from the extensions tab is working fine, with only a few warnings, could you share the document svg file to test?

I installed inkscape and this package freshly. Trying to render tex leads to a strange crash without a real error message with all configurations I tried "Command /usr/bin/inkscape --pdf-poppler --pdf-page=1 --export-type=svg --export-text-to-path --export-area-drawing --export-filename tmp.svg tmp.pdf failed (code -11)". Any idea how to debug this?

Thanks, pkgver updated and dependency on python-cssselect added

entshuld commented on 2022-05-27 12:27 (UTC)

python-cssselect may be needed as a runtime dependency
