Important note: Is recommended to receive the following key before to install:

$ gpg --recv-keys 7A9964831E98EED5

Also is possible skip the verification, adding the flag for (e.g makepkg, yay) --skippgpcheck, --nopgpfetch, respectively.

@Thermi @joelsc Thanks for maintaining this excellent package. However, I have found exactly the same "PermissionError" mentioned by @edfors (above) after the last update. Essentially, this means that textext cannot be utilized at all. How could we fix this? Many thanks

edfors commented on 2021-09-17 08:16 (UTC)

After the last update (1.5.0-1), textext seems to be back at attempting to write the log file to /usr/share/inkscape/extensions, which leads to the error "PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/share/inkscape/extensions/textext/textext.log'" when invoking textext in Inkscape 1.1

gtksourceview3 could be made an optional dependency for syntax highlighting (see https://textext.github.io/textext/install/linux.html).

I received the following error when running Tex Text:

The fantastic lxml wrapper for libxml2 is required by inkex.py and therefore this extension. Please download and install the latest version from http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/lxml/, or install it through your package manager by a command like: sudo apt-get install python-lxml

Technical details: No module named lxml

So I think python2-lxml should be a dependency.

Thank you for reporting that. I fixed that now.

Why is pygtk optional? It doesn't work without it. Pygtksourceview2 could be added as optional for syntax highlighting. I also needed gnome-themes-extra to stop the error messages, but at that point it already worked.

I got a fatal error on 0.9.1-4, suggesting that pdf2svg is not optional but mandatory:

[TexText][CRITICAL]: pdf2svg is NOT found in PATH

Nothing from my side against installing it, though.

Thanks for the package!

The release 0.10.0 is out:

https://github.com/textext/textext/releases

I tested it and it seems to work fine.
