Unfortunately, the Ghostery Browser has been discontinued (source: https://www.ghostery.com/blog/ghostery-private-browser-discontinued).
It will not see any further updates. I would recommend to switch to Firefox to get the latest security patches.

@PhCl, thank you for your diligent work to track this stupid bug down. The original libclearkey.so which was supposedly missing the libmozsqlite.so file somehow.
[Edit] I forgot to mention that I'm no longer on Arch but EoS instead which is Arch-like enough that I wouldn't think this should be an issue?
Well, this week, I noticed that this stupid thing is back but in a slightly different form. This time the install went fine (of Ghostery) but I got a new-ish error that is very similar to the original one.
File "/usr/lib/ghostery/gmp-clearkey/0.1/libclearkey.so" from package "ghostery-browser-bin" is missing dependency "libmozsqlite3.so"
So it's the same file just an updated version being whined about by the system after installing Ghostery-bin. This time around I did some digging into my own system and found the damned lib under the directory you originally said should have said *.so file.
Output of ls /usr/lib/ghostery:
libmozavcodec.so libmozavcodec.so
libmozavutil.so
libmozgtk.so
libmozsandbox.so
*libmozsqlite3.so*
The file obviously exists so why it's saying it does not is beyond me. I'm quite confused by this because I haven't messed with the browser at all apart from installing it through yay. Any ideas? I'm just curious at this point about why this error even comes up.
@MoonSwan I tried to look for the problem, but did not notice it myself. I only fixed two errors that "namcap" reported ("alsa-lib" missing); but updating the package ran without any errors on my machines.
The file should be provided by the package (it will be installed under /usr/lib/ghostery/libmozsqlite3.so
).
I didn't notice the error myself when upgrading. Weird. I'll keep it in mind when there is a new update.
@PhCl, thank you I forgot to re-comment to say that yes the newest version of Ghostery fixed my extension issues.
I have run into a new and perhaps benign error within the last month or so. Every time I upgrade the system, I get this error when Ghostery is updated:
File "/usr/lib/ghostery/gmp-clearkey/0.1/libclearkey.so" from package "ghostery-browser-bin" is missing dependency "libmozsqlite3.so"
The program still works as expected but I have to wonder if it really is a benign error or not. Thought I'd ask here. I tried searching for this particular lib (to install it manually) as well but so far have had no luck doing so.
A new version has now out. @MoonSwan: I hope it fixes the problem.
Just a quick question to the maintainers of this package.
TLDR: [i hate TLDRs but my post is long enough to warrant it ...] According to an extension I want to run this version of Ghostery is too old to support it or make use of it. Can this be worked around or do I need to compile another version of Ghostery myself? (If I do, how would you recommend I go about it? I've never used ABS and never compiled from source outside of using Yay).
I'm a long-time Archer but I've run into a snag with this app. I tried to use my favourite Youtube extension (it's just called YouTube Enhancer) by going to FF's extensions page and searching for it. I thought I found it but, it turned out that it was an extension by someone else with the same damn name! There appears to be at least 2 extensions with the name Youtube Enhancer (which pissed me off ...) so I went looking for it with the Mercury browser. I found it, installed it then came back here to install it on Ghostery.
Much to my suprise (and great annoyance) I was greeted with the message that this app is "too old" to use the new version of YE! Wtf. When I looked at the version string for Ghostery it turns out their version is fairly far behind FFs and other forks of FF. I don't know why that is but it's a pain in the arse right now for me.
My question is whether there's anything to be done about this issue or would I have to compile a Git version by myself to get a more current Ghostery install? I'd use Mercury but it's giving me issues with Sway and not re-sizing my PiP YouTube videos correctly.
(I do realise you guys may not be able to do a damn thing but I thought I'd ask.)
Raine
To the best of knowledge, I lack permission to delete the package myself. But I support the open deletion request.
Note: this package used to be called https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ghostery-dawn-bin
The package has been renamed to ghostery-browser-bin: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ghostery-browser-bin
