The problem must be distro specific @toerb. I've been using 1.17.8 for awhile and haven't had any problems. However I run CachyOS, which is an optimized version of Arch, so it's always up to date with the latest software.

Can confirm what toerb says about 1.17.8 - this version is broken and will not read any discs for me. Downgrading to 1.17.7 fixed the problem, this works fine.

There seem to be problems with new users starting at 1.17.8: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=35703

This now depends on libavcodec.so
so when it needs to be rebuilded against new ffmpeg
version you are forced to uninstall first otherwise the update will be blocked

I was getting an error while launching, "NO_ANSWER_FROM_MAKEMKVCON".
Running from terminal gave:
/usr/bin/makemkvcon: error while loading shared libraries: libavcodec.so.60: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
libavcodec has been upgraded recently. Re-installing makemkv fixes it

What is the purpose of the java-runtime optional dependency?

I had to rebuild after the last system upgrade, did work fine after the rebuild though.
So maybe needs an bump to -4

OK. Now checks and builds properly makemkv-1.17.7-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

Okay. I reverted the last commit. Not sure why me and one person on the forums are getting double-gzip'd files. Builds on my CI now, but not locally.

I can confirm that a manual
sudo modprobe sg
was necessary to getmakepkg
to detect my DVD drive.FabioLolix commented on 2023-03-16 21:41 (UTC)
