Note for anyone who has a Polaris GPU (Radeon RX 5xx) debugging issues with this package; Packages that use OpenCL like clinfo or davinci-resolve-studio will need you to downgrade opencl-amd to 1:5.7.1-1 as well as amdgpu-pro-oglp to 23.10_1620044-1 to avoid coredumps & segfaults.

DVR would not open unless these 2 packages were downgraded (along with their dependencies). Had to figure it out the hard way after hours using valgrind and rebooting over and over. Hopefully someone else will not have to pull their hair out trying to resolve their issue.

Current release is for ROCm 6.3.2 opencl-amd package includes only OpenCL / HIP runtime. You also need to use opencl-amd-dev package for ROCm LLVM compiler, OpenCL and HIP SDK. Please relog / reboot after installing so your PATH gets updated

There are now official packages available: rocm-opencl-sdk for OpenCL and rocm-hip-sdk for HIP - You might have better luck with these packages depending on your GPU.

@AndyRTR your link doesn't work: "Could not get paste data: Paste does not exist, has expired or has been deleted." Could you please share again?

Just for completeness, as long as this is not solved I must stay with this package

installing rocm-opencl-sdk fails as

could not satisfy dependencies:
- removing opencl-amd-dev breaks dependency 'hipblas' required by magma-hip
- removing opencl-amd-dev breaks dependency 'hipsparse' required by magma-hip
- removing opencl-amd-dev breaks dependency 'rocm-hip-sdk' required by python-cupy-rocm

installing rocm-hip-sdk fails as

could not satisfy dependencies:
- unable to satisfy dependency 'rocm-hip-libraries' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'rocm-llvm' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'hipblas' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'hipcub' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'hipfft' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'hipsparse' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'hipsolver' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'miopen-hip' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'rccl' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'rocalution' required by rocm-hip-sdk

- unable to satisfy dependency 'rocrand' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'rocsolver' required by rocm-hip-sdk
- unable to satisfy dependency 'rocsparse' required by rocm-hip-sdk

@ReaperOne: that's a simple pastebin replacement. Just open the link and copy the text into your PKGBUILD.

@Andy RTR, how to install this package ?...I'm sorry i don't know how use privatebin command in Arch....

AndyRTR commented on 2023-03-23 20:58 (UTC)

Please have a look at this PKGBUILD that is based on the last working opencl-amd 21.40.1.1337803-1 version for my legacy RX460 card:

https://privatebin.net/?642a5a4a49a373c8#8LofA29YEk8f7D3iEctXxB31Fsv6cVBvv6C5WkyxTUyq

That one builds and works well here it seems using the latest release. I can use darktable with it. Maybe you want to do a split or separate package for this. At least it proofs to me that all the new rocm stuff isn't actually required for plain opencl to work.

@ReaperOne I am using it in my RX580 desktop version, so far it is good. But I don't know if there is any difference with laptop version.

Hello, i want to ask, is ROCm 5.4.3 support Polaris 21 ?...I have RX560 laptop version

@blueman Good catch. I think it's not needed any more, but it's not easy to say without testing everything. I tested some stuff (clinfo, Geekbench, rocgdb) and only ncurses is required as far as I can tell which should be already installed I guess. I will make some more tests in the weekend and if it's not needed any more I will remove it on the next ROCm release. Thanks

edit: note to self: rocgdb seems to need babeltrace package.

blueman commented on 2023-03-15 21:06 (UTC)

I just noticed that the package 'ncurses5-compat-libs' is orphaned now. Is it still required for proper function of opencl-amd?
