The latest support Intel HDA is 0x8c20, and I am using a348. If your sound card is not listed there, it is not supported.

  • 8c20 ("8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High Definition Audio Controller")
  • a348 ("Cannon Lake PCH cAVS")

Updated (ac48ed0-6) with a patch to make oss work with kernel 4.8 compiled with CONFIG_HARDENED_USERCOPY (enabled by default for the Arch Linux kernel). (For more details see thread on OSS forums: http://ossnext.trueinstruments.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5837)

Updated (ac48ed-4) with a patch to allow compilation with 4.6 kernels.

Confirm with latest patch, working again for me. Seems to compile faster with gcc-5 in fact. Great work @alexdw.

Updated (ac48ed-3) with a patch for gcc-5. See: https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-5/porting_to.html (the part on "extern inline")

@ruegerjr: Thanks - that makes sense as oss-nonfree (precompiled) hasn't been broken by kernel 4.0.4.

ruegerjr commented on 2015-05-31 00:24 (UTC)

Problem this time is NOT the kernel. It is the recent upgrade of gcc. Package still builds for kernel 4.04 if gcc is downgraded from 5.1.0-4 to 4.9.2-4.

@vaultex: Thanks for the report. I just tried and get the same error on linux 4.0.4. If I have some time over the weekend I'll see if I can work out a patch for it.

@dinux, @ruegerjr: Thanks for the information. I'll have a look at fixing this package by the end of the day.
