When you have this package installed applications that are built against repo-llvm/clang WILL fail unless they are rebuild against this package.

This includes QTCreator, kdevelop , mesa, intel-compute-runtime, gnome-builder to name a few.

Archlinux currently has 3 llvm git implementations

  1. This package

    • It aims to provide a full llvm/clang compiler environment for development purposes.
    • Supports cross-compiling , bindings for external stuff (python, ocaml etc) , and some things not in extra-llvm.
    • intended to be used with archlinux core, extra & community repos
    • CONFLICTS with extra llvm/clang packages
    • Currently there's no repo with binary versions
  2. llvm-minimal-git

    • focuses on providing stuff needed for AUR mesa-git. Doesn't support cross-compiling or any bindings for external stuff like ocaml & python.
    • intended to be used with archlinux core, extra & community repos
    • compatible with extra llvm/clang packages
    • no repo with binary versions
  3. packages created & maintained by Lordheavy, an arch developer

    • intended to be used with archlinux testing repos
    • sometimes has problems on systems where testing repos are disabled
    • uses same package structure as llvm/clang in official repos
    • source
    • binary versions in LordHeavys unoffical repo

I've looked good at clang-trunk , llvm-svn, repo llvm/clang packages and think this package is now on route to become a worthy successor to llvm-svn .

  • llvm-libs-git holds the runtime libraries.

It conflicts with the repo llvm-libs package. This is the only way to make sure the llvm linker from git is used, and that's needed for a full dev environment.

  • llvm-git

has llvm , clang, compiler-rt, ocaml & python bindings, polly , lld , lldb .

The Package now uses a new environment variable to make ninja behave, NINJAFLAGS. If you want to use it adjust the snippet below to your desired values and add it to makepkg.conf.

Incase you are satisfied with ninja defaults you don't need to do anything.

# Add to makepkg.conf
# limit ninja to 20 jobs
# requires special code in PKGBUILD
# see ninja --help for additonal options
NINJAFLAGS="-j20"

The check() function fails rather often, but I do suggest to build with them. If build fails due to test failure you can add --nocheck to skip the tests.

[NOTICE] Another fix due to upstream changes in the Clang Static Analyzer (clang-analyzer-svn) has been pushed.

kerberizer commented on 2015-11-09 23:38 (UTC)

[NOTICE] The PKGBUILD has been updated to reflect the changes from r252474 and r252489 in upstream. Using an old PKGBUILD will lead to errors like this: error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files) /usr/bin/scan-build exists in both 'clang-svn' and 'clang-analyzer-svn' /usr/bin/scan-view exists in both 'clang-svn' and 'clang-analyzer-svn' /usr/share/man/man1/scan-build.1.gz exists in both 'clang-svn' and 'clang-analyzer-svn' The changes affect the Clang Static Analyzer (clang-analyzer-svn). I'd like to ask all people who use it to check if everything works as expected. If you encounter any problems, please let me know.

Also, please note that the libLTO.so version symlinks are not installed any more.

[NOTICE] The fix for the clang-tools-extra build has been accepted upstream as r251001. The package has been updated accordingly too.

kerberizer commented on 2015-10-21 12:51 (UTC)

[NOTICE] clang-tools-extra build should be fixed now I've also submitted the fix upstream: http://reviews.llvm.org/D13936

[WARNING] clang-tools-extra build fails Due to recent changes in the CMake logic, building of clang-tools-extra currently fails. I'm looking into it. Please note that because this is the last package to be built, all other packages are built correctly.

[NOTICE] Shared library fixed The critical bug with LLVM not exporting the expected symbols seems to have been fixed completely upstream, so I've removed the last custom patch. Keep this in mind if you notice any "undefined reference" errors. [HEADS UP] Users of `llvm-svn`, `mesa-git` and AMD video cards MUST recompile Mesa If ALL of the following are true for you: * you use an AMD video card with open source drivers, * you use `{lib32-,}mesa-git` from AUR, * you use `{lib32-,}llvm-svn` from AUR, * you have upgraded the `{lib32-,}llvm-svn` packages during the last ~24 hours, whether by compiling yourself or from the `llvm-svn` binary repo, then please note that you MUST recompile the Mesa packages (or possibly upgrade again from the `mesa-git` binary repo you use) due to a recent change in the LLVM shared library. If Mesa is not recompiled, with the new llvm-svn packages you'll most likely face errors like this: gbm: Last dlopen error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/radeonsi_dri.so: undefined symbol: _ZN4llvm21SymbolTableListTraitsINS_11InstructionENS_10BasicBlockEE13addNodeToListEPS1_ Please note that for the AMD open source drivers recompiling Mesa on every LLVM upgrade is a good practice, even though most of the time it might not be strictly necessary.
